STRASBOURG - Council of Europe (COE) Parliamentary Assembly President Peter Schieder said on Monday that representation issue of parliamentarians from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) would be discussed during general assembly meetings in October.
Recalling that the issue had been discussed during the same day's meetings, Schieder told a press conference that they were determined to find a solution to the issue until the meeting in October.
Schieder did not comment on COE Parliamentary Assembly secretariat general's report on the issue but said he had received two letters from the TRNC and Greek Cypriot administration on representation of Turkish Cypriot parliamentarians in the COE general assembly meetings. A decision on attendance of Turkish Cypriot parliamentarians in COE Parliamentary Assembly's general assembly meetings in April and their right to address the meetings was postponed with last-minute initiative of Greek Cypriots.
However, the general assembly adopted to set up close relationship with Turkish Cypriot parliamentarians.
The report by the COE Parliamentary Assembly secretariat general is expected to clarify this relationship.
