IT WAS A STATE DECISION
Turkish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul announced that he received and met with former Democracy Party (DEP) deputies including Leyla Zana and her three friends, as Acting Prime Minister since state officials considered the meeting ''beneficial.'' Gul said, ''we made several evaluations among ourselves and thought that this meeting will be beneficial. Of course, the prime minister was informed about the meeting. I met with former DEP deputies within this framework.''

CETIN: ''MY MISSION WILL EXTEND''
NATO Senior Civilian Representative in Afghanistan Hikmet Cetin announced that his assignment in this country would extend for six more months. Cetin, who is in Kabul for months, said, ''I am representing the political leadership of NATO in Kabul, and exerting efforts for NATO's contribution to democratic political structuring.'' Cetin is being protected by a special team formed by the Turkish General Staff.

''LET'S KEEP TURKEY AWAIT'' DOCUMENTARY REWARDED
The documentary film shot during the European Union's (EU) Copenhagen summit in December 2002 was given Golden Links Award. In the documentary film, German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer tells the Dutch minister that Turkey won't be a member and therefore suggested that the EU should firstly keep Turkey awaiting and then forget about Turkey.

HE WILL ASK PKK TO BUSH
Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer will tell U.S. President George Bush, whom he will meet during the NATO summit in Istanbul, that promises made to eliminate the terrorist organization PKK has not been kept. The General Staff briefed Sezer on the terrorist organization PKK/KONGRA-GEL before his meeting with Bush. Sezer will lay down the common road map drawn for elimination of the terrorist organization from the north of Iraq before Bush, whom he will meet on June 27, and stress that promises has not been kept. Sezer will demand that military alternatives should be put into practice and road map should be clarified as promises for elimination of the terrorist organization has not been kept. Sezer will also recall that Turkey passed ''Return Home Law'' which the United States put forth as a condition to stage military operation against the terrorist organization.

HE WILL COME WITH HIS MESSAGES
Messages that U.S. President George Bush will give during the NATO summit have been clarified: PKK and terrorism will be condemned, election of Turkish candidate as the new Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) will be marked, support to Turkey's European Union (EU) membership will be reiterated, Turkey's reforms will be praised and Turkey will be shown as a model for the Greater Middle East Initiative.

NEW LINE IN NORTH OF IRAQ
Turkey's ''red line'', which sets its policy in north of Iraq, has changed. Turkey's policy to oppose to federal Kurdish state and to define Barzani and Talabani as tribe leaders have been left behind.

NEW TORTURE INVOICE
Policemen paved their way of punishment in the case filed on charges of torturing 15 youngsters due to lapse of time. Therefore, citizens will pay 310 thousand Euro fine charged by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). ECHR took a decision about an ongoing case in Turkey for the first time. The court showed the lapse of time in the case filed against policemen as a reason. Devrim Oktem, one of the plaintiffs of the case, said that she lost her one-and-a-half-month baby due to torture and had an abortion for two times for excise of parts to prove it.

BAD NEWS FOR RETIRED
After the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which has asked Turkey to reduce public personnel expenditures, the World Bank has also coveted pensions. In its report, the World Bank claimed that there were too many young retired in Turkey and asked Turkey to deduct tax from retired who were young and who had high pension.

CICEK REACTS HARSHLY
Reacting harshly to statements of former Democracy Party (DEP) deputies after they were released from prison, Turkish Justice Minister Cemil Cicek said, ''everybody should appreciate release from prison.'' Cicek stressed that nobody should try to test the power of the state. Evaluating the statements of former DEP deputies that they were close to the government as much as they were to the terrorist organization KONGRA-GEL, Cicek said, ''they are mumbling not to condemn terrorism, the biggest enemy of democracy. They are calling themselves mediator. Who gives you this role? And, who are you?''

BAYKAL: THEY ARE TRYING TO CAUSE DISORDER IN COUNTRY
Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal, who evaluated the recent rise in terrorist attacks, said, ''we can see that some moves to cause disorder in Turkey occur as the day when the European Union (EU) will decide on whether or not to start full membership negotiations with Turkey is getting closer.''

Turkey is again under the influence of a new rainy weather. Temperatures will start to decrease considerably in western and northern parts of Turkey as of today.

BOTH DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN DEBTS RISE
Turkish Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan said that Turkey's foreign debt stock rose by 7 billion 674 million U.S. dollars to 62 billion 519 million U.S. dollars as of the end of March. Unakitan said that domestic debt stock climbed 59 quadrillion 523 trillion Turkish liras (TL) from 144 quadrillion 185 trillion TL to 203 quadrillion 708 trillion TL in March 31, 2004 when compared to October 30, 2002.

TURKEY'S EXPORT TARGET IS 60 BILLION USD
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that this year's export target of Turkey was 60 billion U.S. dollars. Erdogan said that the government wanted to reduce the inflation rate to 12 percent at the end of this year. Recalling that Turkey had raised an income of 49 billion U.S. dollars though exports last year, Erdogan said that Turkey's target was to obtain 60 billion U.S. dollars from exports this year.

IF EU SAYS ''NO'' TO TURKEY, IT WILL MAKE A HISTORIC AND TRAGIC MISTAKE
British Minister for Europe Dennis McShane made a critical warning to European Union (EU) member countries. McShane said that saying no to Turkey in December would be a historic and tragic mistake. McShane gave hope to Turkey for its membership and warned the EU. McShane said that the report on the progress made by Turkey would be positive, noted that Turkey had recorded significant progress, and added that a good atmosphere had been created in Turkey.

SYMBOLIC HORSE IN FILM ''TROY'' TO BE BROUGHT TO TURKEY
The symbolic horse used in the film ''Troy'', which has attracted interest of the whole world, will be brought to western Canakkale province as a result of initiatives of Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Erkan Mumcu. The symbolic horse is currently in Japan.
