ISTANBUL (CIHAN) - Turkish pivot Mehmet Okur told a press conference on Sunday he wants to stay in Detroit Pistons next year.
Mehmet Okur, the first Turkish player to win the NBA title, returned from USA and held a press conference at the Ataturk Airport.
Okur said that his first option is to stay in Detroit Piston. "I had good days there. I have no problem with anybody. Chairman and coach want me to stay in Detroit." However, Mehmet added that he is professional player and is open other offers if Detroit fails to renew contract.
In relation to their championship in NBA; Mehmet Okur said that their team game overcame the Los Angels Lakers. "Although we were not favorites, with good team work, we won the title."
Mehmet added that his success would open the NBA way to Turkish young basketball players.
Mehmet Okur's Detroit Piston clinched the NBA title last week. Detroit Pistons crushed the Los Angels Lakers 100-87 in last match of best of seven series on their way to the NBA championship last week. The Pistons won the best of seven series 4-1.
Turkish star player said that he invited his teammates to his wedding ceremony on June 7.
Okur said that Turkey national basketball team will attain good results in 2005 European Championship qualification groups.
