ANKARA (CIHAN) - The Turkish Agriculture and Rural Affairs Minister, Sami Güclü said on Friday that fast and stabile growth cannot be reached without decisive action in the agricultural sector. He added that if the use of grain certification were extended, then imports of wheat and barley could be stopped as of 2005.
Güclü stated, "Fast and permanent growth cannot be reached without decisive action in the agricultural sector which provides a livelihood for 35 percent of the Turkish population and 15 percent of the national income. Turkey has attained political stability in 2004 and the lowest inflation rate in the last 30 years."
Stating that his ministry was making great efforts to develop the livestock industry, Güclü said that a total of 500 trillion Turkish Liras in support would be granted to the livestock sector this year.
