ISTANBUL (CIHAN) - The new coach of the Turkish national basketball team Bogdan Tanjevic has promised to take Turkey to the 2005 European Championship finals.
Tanjeviç held a press conference at the Abdi Ipekci Arena where he named the Turkish basketball squad.
The Serbian coach said that the national squad would be large and would have depth. Tanjevic also said that Turkey had many young talented players.
Turkey is due to face New Zealand twice and also the US 'dream team' in preliminary friendly games.
Team coach Tanvejic has called on four players each from champions Efes Pilsen and runners-up Ülkerspor.
Turkish stars, playing in the US NBA, Hidayet Turkoglu and Mehmet Okur will also join the team.
Tanjevic named the following 15 players in the squad:
Hidayet Türkoglu (San Antonio Spurs), Kerem Tunçeri, Kaya Peker, Ender Arslan, Ermal Kurtoglu (Efes Pilsen), Ibrahim Kutluay, Fatih Solak, Kerem Gönlüm, Serkan Erdogan (Ülkerspor), Mirsad Türkcan (CSKA Moskova), Mehmet Okur (Detroit Pistons), Erkan Veyseloglu (Fenerbahçe), Mustafa Abi, Baris Ermis (Besiktas), Engin Atsür (North Carolina), Ersan Ilyasova (Yesilyurt).
