ANKARA - Turkish Foreign Ministry plans to have new formations in some departments within foreign ministry following 31st session of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) foreign ministers meeting.
Diplomatic sources said Turkey planned to have new formations within the body of Foreign Ministry to fulfill its assignments in the best way.
Turkey undertook foreign ministry term presidency for one year and office of the secretary general for four years at the OIC foreign ministers meeting.
Re-establishment of OIC department within Foreign Ministry, which had been opened earlier but closed later, is in question.
Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu was appointed as the Secretary General of the OIC.
The office of Secretary General which was firstly formed in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 1970 undertakes all duties and responsibilities regarding the execution of the organization.
The Secretary General, who puts into practice the decisions that are taken during OIC Summits and foreign ministers meetings, also assists activities of secondary organs and committees.
The Secretary General who is elected for four years in Foreign Ministers meeting cannot be elected for more than two consecutive terms. Four Assistant Secretaries Generals are also elected with the Secretary General. The Secretary General presents report to ministers meeting and the summit and gives information about the activities of the Organization. A team which is comprised of experts and diplomats of various countries is helping the Secretary General.
