Foreign Minister Gul Meets With E.U. Commissioner For Enlargement Verheugen

BRUSSELS - Turkish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul met on Friday with European Union (EU) Commissioner for enlargement Guenter Verheugen.
Gul is holding talks within the scope of the European Council and Intergovernmental Conference (IGC) in Brussels.
European Commission spokesman's office stated that Gul and Verheugen exchanged views on issues that were brought onto the agenda in Turkey's EU membership process.
Sources stated that reports on Turkey that European Commission would announce in October 2004 were discussed in the meeting. European Commission will issue three separate reports about Turkey in October.
European Commission will make a recommendation to EU Council whether or not full membership negotiations will be started with Turkey in its progress report.
European Commission will present an assessment report on function of accession partnership strategy that has been carried out with Turkey for five years.
The commission will also present a report on how EU institutions will be affected if Turkey becomes a member of the EU.
