ANKARA - Turkey would contribute to security measures to be taken in Olympics in Athens, Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesman Namik Tan said on Wednesday.
Replying to a question, Tan recalled that Greece asked NATO to assist security measures that would be taken in Olympics to be held in Athens between August 13 and 29, 2004.
Stating that Greece's demand was approved also with Turkey's support in the meeting of NATO Council on March 17, 2004, Tan said that concerned NATO units were charged with the task.
Tan said that assistance that Turkey could extend to security measures that would be taken during Olympics was determined and it was conveyed to NATO on June 9, 2004.
It was decided that two nuclear, biological and chemical decontamination teams from General Staff and Interior Ministry would be ready in Turkey to be sent to Greece, if it was needed during Olympics in Athens, Tan added.
