NATO soldier dies in Afghanistan: international force

KABUL - A NATO soldier died of gunshot wounds received during a patrol in northeastern Afghanistan, the alliance's International Security Assistance Force said.
The ISAF soldier was evacuated for emergency treatment after being struck on Saturday in the rugged northeastern province of Nuristan but surgery failed to save his life, it said in a statement late Saturday.
The statement gave no details of the incident or of the soldier.
Most of the troops operating in Afghanistan's east are US nationals, who make up around half of the international soldiers deployed here to help fight extremists like the Taliban.
Thirteen international soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan this year, most of them in hostile action.
