O.I.C. Secretary General Ihsanoglu: We Witnessed A Turning Point In O.I.C.

ISTANBUL - Prof. Dr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, who was appointed new secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) said on Wednesday, ''appointment of the new secretary general of the OIC with a vote and appointment of a Turkish people to this position are very momentous developments.''
In an interview with the A.A, Ihsanoglu said, ''this achievement is of multilateral importance. It was a veritable turning point within the OIC. I believe that this change will bring forth many positive consequences.''
Noting that former OIC Secretary General Abdelouahed Belkeziz would remain in office till December 31, Ihsanoglu said that he would take over the mission on January 1, 2005.
