ANKARA - The State Institute of Statistics (DIE) said that number of newly established companies increased by 35.8 percent in May of 2004 over to the same month of previous year.
Releasing a statement, the DIE said on Wednesday that 3,376 new companies and 3,914 new trade names with a total capital of 547.4 trillion Turkish liras (TL) were established.
Within the same month, 2,451 companies increased their capital by 2 quadrillion 416.2 trillion TL, 13 companies with total capital of 14 trillion 171.9 billion TL changed their status, 507 companies with total capital of 166.2 billion TL were liquidated.
Numbers and fields of activity of the newly established companies are as follows: 1,091 wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles, and household items; 751 manufacturing; 428 construction; 311 real estate services; 270 transport, storage, communication; 154 hotels and restaurants; 79 agriculture, hunting, forestry; 77 finance; 68 medical and social services; 47 education; 39 other community, social and personal services; 31 mining and quarrying; 19 electricity, gas, water; 7 fishing; and 1 the administrative activities of a government, defense obligatory social security,
Numbers and fields of activity of the companies which increased their capital are as follows: 714 manufacturing; 587 wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles, and household items; 297 construction; 255 transport, storage, communication; 242 other community, social and personal services; 159 real estate services; 60 hotels and restaurants; 42 finance; 36 medical and social services; 23 education; 12 agriculture, hunting, forestry; 11 mining and quarrying; 8 electricity, gas, water; 4 the administrative activities of government, defense, obligatory social security.
Meanwhile, 13 companies have changed their status. Numbers and fields of activity are as follows: 7 manufacturing; 2 wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles, and household items; 1 construction; 1 transport, storage, communication; 1 real estate services and 1 education.
Numbers and fields of activity of the liquidated companies are as follows: 123 manufacturing; 166 wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles, and household items; 77 construction; 47 transport, storage, communication; 35 real estate services; 16 hotels and restaurants; 15 finance; 10 medical and social services; 6 agriculture, hunting, forestry; 6 education; 4 mining and quarrying and 2 fishery.
