ISTANBUL - Turkey suggested a new proposal for the vote of new Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC).
Turkey suggested three Secretary General candidates to deliver speeches each for ten minutes in general assembly and inform members what they will do if they become secretary general. According to the proposal, following the speeches a voting will be held and two candidates will withdraw in favor of the winning candidate. Thus, the winner candidate can be presented as the name on which Asia group reached a consensus.
Sources said that the secretary general was trying to be determined by not deteriorating the traditions, adding that the proposal of Turkey was evaluated among members.
While uncertainty is continuing regarding the method, voting is expected to be held for the first time in history of the organization since a consensus has not been reached yet. Voting can be held today, but the process can extend to tomorrow.
Turkish, Bangladeshi and Malaysian candidates are running for the office of OIC secretary general, but the real competition is among the candidates of Turkey and Bangladesh who announced their candidacy in the previous period as well.
