BERLIN (CIHAN) - The Chairman of the Foreign Relations Commission of the German Federal Parliament and member of the German Christian Democrats (CDU), Volker Rühe said on Tuesday that a German citizen of Muslim Turkish origin should be minister in Germany.
The Speaker of the Turkish Parliament, Bülent Arýnç, who is in Germany as a response to an invitation of Speaker of the German Federal Parliament Wolfgang Thierse, was received Rühe. The two statesmen evaluated studies of the Foreign Affairs Commissions of German and Turkish parliaments.
Rühe confessed that the German Christian Democrats Party (CDU) have so far neglected the German voters of Turkish origin in Germany. Rühe said he has close relations with Muslim Turks in his election region, and added that a Muslim Turk should be minister in the next federal elections.
"Turkish origin Cem Özdemir from German Union/90/ Greens came close. Like in France, a Muslim minister should be elected in Germany. The North Rhine Westphalia state, which has a large Turkish voter potential, is the most appropriate state for electing a minister in Germany," Rühe said.
