ANKARA (CIHAN) - The Chairman of Turkey's Labor Unions Confederation (Turk-Is), Salih Kilic received IMF Turkish Desk Chief, Riza Moghadam and IMF Representative in Turkey, Odd Per Brekk on Tuesday. The IMF asked for support from Turk-Is for its stability economic program at the meeting.
Kilic delivered a statement evaluating the meeting with IMF delegation and in which he criticized the IMF delegation because IMF did not ask to their opinions concerning Turkish policies. Kilic stated that, "If IMF delegation was asked to us, the economic and social problems affecting Turkey seriously may not reach to this level."
Noting the increase in the unemployment rate and decrease in income level under the IMF's economic policies in Turkey Kilic went to say that, "We advised them to review their policies."
Kilic also said that, "The IMF asked us to support the stability economic package and reforms but this support is not possible because it lacks a focus on social needs. If the economic policies include a social dimension, we can review them."
The meeting was closed to the press but apparently Moghadam said at the meeting that, "We see Turkey as a friend and we are here to help Turkey. Turkey has achieved important improvements in the last five years."
