50 People Detained In Zonguldak For Holding Illegal Anti-nato Demonstration

ZONGULDAK (CÝHAN) - A group of people held illegal demonstrations against the NATO summit in Istanbul and Zonguldak Monday evening.
50 people set up a barricade in the road in street of Gazi and closed the road to traffic to protest against the NATO summit. Police intervened into illegal protests. However, the protesters retaliated police by hurling stones and stick and smashing the windows of business places around.
Anti-terror teams and armored vehicles were transferred to region. The protesters dispersed into rues, chased by the police.
Nobody was injured in incident while security measures were stepped up in the area.
Meanwhile, 50 people were detained in northern Turkish city of Zonguldak for holding illegal demonstration.
Some 50 people gathered before the Zonguldak mine monument and began to chant slogans against NATO, the USA and the Turkish government. Police warned the protesters that they were holding illegal demonstration. However, the protesters insisted to keep their demonstration. Upon this, police broke up the demonstration and detained the protesters.
Security across Turkey is under the spotlight in the run-up to the NATO Summit which is to take place in Istanbul on June 28-29.
Nearly 60 presidents or heads of states are expected to attend the NATO Summit.
