ISTANBUL - Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Noer Hasan Wirajuda said on Monday that Israel should withdraw from the territories it occupied.
Speaking at the opening of the 31st Session of the Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers, Wirajuda said what Israel has been doing was terrorism on the territories it occupied, and noted that occupying forces in Palestine should be condemned.
Wirajuda said, ''Palestinian people continue to suffer the provocations and brutality of illegal Israeli policies and practices. The peace process has become a victim of Israeli military aggression. The economic situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory is deteriorating fast and its people are in great need of humanitarian help.''
He said extrajudicial executions against the Palestinian people have continued to intensify. They represent serious violations and grave breaches of international law. The occupying power should be held accountable for these crimes against humanity.''
''In this connection, we support all the measures taken by the international community in seeking to reverse this unfortunate situation faced by the Palestinian people. We welcome the adoption of Security Council resolution 1544 last month calling on Israel to respect its obligations under international humanitarian law, and insisting, in particular on its obligation not to undertake demolition of homes contrary to that law. It is also timely for this organization to render its concrete and urgent response to the situation,'' Wirajuda stressed.
''We also endorse the declaration on Palestine agreed at the Islamic Special Meeting of Foreign Ministers on the Middle East which was held in Putrajaya, Malaysia, on April 22, 2004 particularly on the need to establish an independent Palestinian State with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, and the need to implement all the international resolutions pertaining to Palestine and the Middle East, as well as the commitment to the peace process in the Middle East on the basis of full implementation of the Road Map and the Arab Peace Initiative,'' he noted.
