Gül: Struggle Of Islamic World With Problems Is Duty Of Islamic Countries

ISTANBUL (CIHAN) - Turkish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Abdullah Gül stated on Monday that the Islamic world faces many problems and it is the duty of the Islamic countries to solve these problems.
Attending the 31st foreign ministers meeting of the Organization of Islamic Conference (IKO) held in Istanbul's Lütfi Kirdar Congress Center, Gül said that the Islamic world is facing a very critical period. Gül also referred to the struggle between Israel and Palestine, the current situation in Iraq, the problems in Africa and international terrorism. He said, "Preconceived ideas, fanaticism and discrimination are everywhere."
Remarking that solidarity created through the establishment of international organizations and technological and scientific developments creates new opportunities, Gül stated that, "We (Islamic countries) are affected by these problems directly. Therefore, we must continue our struggle. This duty is a duty that we assumed. It is part of our joint heritage and history."
"Our duty may be hard but we must not despair. We must gain power from our joint heritage that provides us with a rational and humanist understanding of the world. The quality of Islamic culture and custom has produced the important results in the past." Gül said.
