ISTANBUL (CÝHAN) - UN Secretary General Special Representative Lahdar Brahimi urged Israel to obey internationals laws. Brahimi also condemned the suicide attacks carried out by Palestinian militant groups.
Speaking at the 31st Foreign Minister Summits of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) in Istanbul, Brahimi said that the Israel-Palestine conflict needs urgent solution. The UN envoy condemned Israel's violent acts against the Palestinian civilians and called on the Israeli government to stop violating international. "Some Palestinians carry out suicide attacks. We condemn such attack no matter when and where these events take place. Nothing can justify these attacks."
Referring to the situation in Iraq, the UN special adviser said that the new Iraqi government deserved a fair chance. Stating that the international community faces several problems including terrorism, chaos, and prejudices, Brahimi said that different cultures should not perceive each other as enemies. He also said that the OIC and the UN shares the same concerns on the world's problems. He said that the UN Security Council resolution on Iraq is very important.
Brahimi said that new Iraqi government has a diverse and well-represented cabinet. The UN advisor said that everyone should give to the new Iraqi government a chance.
Concerning the Cyprus issue, Brahimi said that Turkish side showed its desire for reunification of the island.
