ISTANBUL - UN Special Envoy to Iraq Lakhdar Brahimi said on Monday that new government in Iraq was balanced to a reasonable extend, and noted that Iraqi government deserved to be given a fair chance to itself.
Speaking at the opening of the Thirty-First Session of the Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers, Brahimi said international community was against terrorism, chaos, and various prejudices, stating that different cultures should not perceive each other as enemies. He said those fundamental problems were the joint concerns of OIC and the UN.
Brahimi said recent UN Security Council was extremely important, stressing that the new government in Iraq was balanced to a reasonable extend.
Brahimi said Iraqi people would decide for the performance and success of Iraqi government.
Mentioning the Israeli-Palestinian problem in his speech, Brahimi said the issue required urgent solution.
Brahimi stressed that they condemned the acts of violence of Israel, and called on Israel not to violate international law more.
Recalling that some Palestinians staged suicide attacks, Brahimi said they harshly condemned such kind of attacks wherever and whenever it happens.
Brahimi stressed that the situation in Afghanistan was urgent, stressing that the country has not become secure yet.
Mentioning Cyprus issue, Brahimi said the Turkish Cypriot side openly displayed its tendency for unification of the island and Ankara expended support to those efforts.
