ISTANBUL - Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi of Iran said that a sound cooperation between the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and the European Union (EU) could be sustainable.
Kharrazi handed over term presidency of Islamic Conference for Foreign Ministers to Turkish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul.
Speaking at the conference, Kharrazi gave information about activities during Iran's term presidency.
Stressing that the OIC aimed to unite the Islamic countries in a new global atmosphere, Kharrazi said that the Islamic countries, thus could contribute to global development.
Recalling that last years' contacts between the OIC and the EU yielded positive results, Kharrazi said that a more concrete and meaningful dialogue could be establish as a result of such contacts, and that a sound cooperation between the OIC and the EU could be sustainable.
He stressed that the issues of Palestine and Iraq topped agenda of the conference.
Emphasizing that a structural reform process had been initiated in the OIC, Kharrazi said that important decision made by a committee of high-level officials were expected to be ratified at the conference.
Stressing that Turkey had undertaken term presidency in a very important period, Kharrazi added that the OIC would have the chance of reaching its targets during term presidency of Turkey.
