BINGOL (CIHAN) - Two militants of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK/KONGRA-GEL) were killed in southeastern Turkish city of Bingol. The killed terrorists were preparing to throw hand grenades to military lodgings.
It was recent spate of violence in region as the PKK/KONGRA-GEL called off its ceasefire just early June. The incident took place at 10:00 pm in city of Bingol. Two terrorists, coming near to military lodging, attempted to hurl hand grenades. Luckily, one of the grenades exploded at the hand of PKK terrorist. The guards fired the terrorists. Two militants were killed in the clash.
The Bingol Republic Chief Prosecutor Mehmet Safak, Security Chief Mehmet Gülnaz and Provincial Gendarmerie Regiment Commander Ata Kalkan visited the site to inspect the incident.
A few hundred PKK terrorists are believed to be active in the eastern part of Turkey. However, intelligence sources say that some PKK militants have infiltrated Turkey from neighboring Iraq in recent weeks.
Terrorist activities in the region have escalated recently. Five members of the security forces and five terrorists have been killed in recent weeks.
Two soldiers were killed and one was wounded in a bomb attack in southeastern Turkish city of Tunceli. Nearly 10,000 Turkish troops have been launching an operation in a remote corner of Tunceli since last Friday.
The separatist activities of the outlawed PKK/KADEK terror organization claimed nearly 30 000 lives in the region. However, the insurgency of the terror organization has declined sharply following the capture of organization leader Abdullah Öcalan.
