Turkish Athlete Breaks World Record In Women's 5,000-meter Event

BERGEN - Elvan Abeylegesse of Turkey became on Friday the first Turkish athlete breaking world record in women's 5,000-meter event in Bergen, Norway.
Abeylegesse broke the women's world 5,000-meter record with 14 minutes and 24.68 seconds at the Bislett Games.
Ejegayehu and Tirunesh Dibaba sisters of Ethiopia and Derartu Tulu of Ethiopia were rivals of Abeylegesse.
Tirunesh Dibaba became the second and Ejegayehu Dibaba was ranked the third.
The former world record was broken by Bo Jiang of China with 14 minutes and 28 seconds. Jiang broke this record in Shanghai, China on October 23, 1997.
