STRASBOURG - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat has said that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) should bethink results of the twin referenda in Cyprus regarding the UN plan.
Under his meetings at the Council of Europe (COE), Talat met with ECHR Chief Judge Luzius Wildhaber early on Friday.
Speaking to reporters following the meeting, Talat said that ECHR should maintain its studies according to new conditions emerged in Cyprus.
Recalling that Turkish Cypriots had accepted peace plan while Greek Cypriots had rejected it in the referenda, Talat said, ''the TRNC which accepted the peace plan can't be excluded. Greek Cypriots who rejected it can't represent the whole island and they can't continue make complaint applications to the ECHR as if nothing had happened. Europe and international public opinion have understood this reality. We have explained our opinions about this issue to Wildhaber.''
Replying a question, Talat said that Greek Cypriot secondary school in Karpaz would open in next semester.
Later, Talat met with COE term president Norway's Ambassador Torbian Froysnes.
Talat will have a meeting with COE Secretary General Walter Schwimmer later in the day.
