Four People Detained In Connection With Blast In Diyarbakir

DIYARBAKIR - Diyarbakir Public Prosecutor Durdu Kavak said Friday four people were detained in connection with the blast in southeastern province of Diyarbakir.
A statement by Kavak said five people including four students died and 68 others were injured in the explosion that occurred when a bomb in a car detonated while a military vehicle was passing by.
GEN. BUYUKANIT: ATTACK IN DIYARBAKIR TARGETS NOT ONLY ARMED FORCES BUT ALSO PEOPLE
"Yesterday`s attack was targeting not only armed forces but also people," said Turkish Chief of General Staff Gen. Yasar Buyukanit who meet Diyarbakir Governor Huseyin Avni Mutlu on Friday.
Gen. Buyukanit told reporters that the terrorist attack in Diyarbakir revealed many realities about terrorism.
He noted that the attack was staged in one of the busiest streets of Diyarbakir, and this shows that it targeted civilians besides soldiers.
"We are faced with a terrorist organization which does not want peace to be settled in Diyarbakir. This is very important," he noted.
Gen. Buyukanit offered condolences to families of victims.
Noting that Turkey has been fighting against terrorism for years, Gen. Buyukanit said that name of Diyarbakir shall not be remembered with terrorism any more.
Regarding the condition of injured soldiers, Gen. Buyukanit said that three soldiers were taken to GATA military hospital, adding that none of the injured people is in serious condition.
Regarding the type of the explosives, Gen. Buyukanit said that examination has not been completed yet, adding that there is a high possibility that the explosives are plastic; it can be A-4 or C-4 types.
THOSE WHO DIED IN BLAST IN DIYARBAKIR IDENTIFIED
Five people who died in the explosion that took place in southeastern province of Diyarbakir were identified.
Cengiz Kaya, Eren Sahin, Melek Ipek, Ridvan Suer and Ferhat Mutlu died in the blast.
Five people died and 67 others were injured in the blast in Diyarbakir on Thursday.
NATO CONDEMNS TERRORIST ATTACK IN DIYARBAKIR
NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer condemned the terrorist attack which was staged in southeastern province of Diyarbakir --killing 5 people and injuring 68 others.
NATO Spokesman James Appathurai stated that the Secretary General strongly condemned the terrorist attack which killed and injured innocent people.
Appathurai stressed that NATO continues to be in solidarity with Turkish people and government in fight against terrorism.
A blast occurred yesterday while a military service bus was passing on Mimar Sinan Street in Yenisehir district of Diyarbakir.
