DES MOINES - Senators Joe Biden and Chris Dodd both dropped out of the race for the Democratic presidential nomination late Thursday after poor showings in the Iowa caucuses, the first test for candidates.
Biden thanked his staff profusely for backing him despite his limited financial resources in the race as he announced he was giving up the campaign.
The veteran senator from Delaware garnered barely one percent of the state's Democratic delegates to come in fifth in the crowded field.
Dodd, who represents Connecticut in the Senate, placed sixth, earning just one delegate -- almost zero percent -- in the race.
"I count the past year as one of the most rewarding in a career of public service," Dodd said on his campaign website.
"Unfortunately I am withdrawing from the campaign tonight. Thank you for all your efforts throughout the course of this entire presidential campaign."
