BODRUM - One Turkish coast guard boat was escorting Turkish fishing vessels setting nets Wednesday near Kardak, an uninhabited Aegean islet, which brought Turkey and Greece on the brink of an armed conflict some 12 years ago.
A Greek coast guard boat was also seen accompanying Greek fishers in the region, which has been the scene of continued Greek violation of Turkish territorial waters for the last couple of weeks.
Mayor of a nearby Turkish town said there was nothing extraordinary in the region.
