TICKET WITH NUMBER "1121383" WINS BIGGEST PRIZE
Turkish National Lottery Administration said Tuesday that the ticket with number "1121383" won the biggest prize, a total of 25 million new Turkish lira. Two of the tickets with the same number were sold in Istanbul, one in Gaziantep and another in Mersin.
SIBERIA COLD AND SNOW COMING TO TURKEY ON THURSDAY
Turkish Meteorology Department said that Siberian cold and heavy snow will arrive in Turkey as of Thursday. The snow will come from the Balkans.

TWO SCANDALS AT A MEETING
Scandals about the decision of the Committee on Protection of Cultural and Natural Heritage, permitting construction of an additional building for Four Seasons Hotel on Byzantine ruins still continue.
At a meeting on October 13th, 2000, the Committee, led by Prof. Ozer Erenman, paved the way for the construction of Four Seasons Hotel's additional building on the historical remains.
The Committee approved two decisions at the same time. One is to prepare a building scheme aiming at protection, and the other is the preliminary project of the additional building of the hotel. Thus although an assessment has not yet been made how the land would be used, the preliminary project of the hotel was approved.
8 STEPS FOR 2008
State Minister for Treasury Mehmet Simsek listed 8 measures to boost the economy. As the criticisms that the government was delayed in reforms, Simsek said they were working on projects that will open ways for Turkey. Simsek said micro-reforms would come forefront in 2008.
Listing the areas on which reforms would be made, Simsek said, "Research and Development Policy, employment package, social security reform, privatization, a comprehensive constitutional amendment and Turkish Trade Law."

SMOKERS TO GET BURNED
A new draft law in the Turkish Parliament bans smoking in cafes, coffee houses, bars, fairs, night clubs, shopping malls, weddings, parks, mosque gardens, and childrens' parks. Those caught smoking in these locations will be fined 50 new Turkish lira.
NATURAL GAS PRICE INCREASES IN 2008
The first price increase in 2008 took place in the price of natural gas. Price of natural gas utilized at homes increased by 7.4 percent while natural gas utilized in industrial facilities increased by 6.5 percent.

HEAVY RAIN IN THE WEST, BITTER COLD IN THE EAST
Turkey will be under the influence of a new cold weather wave. There will be rain and snow in Marmara, the Aegean, the West, Central Black Sea and northern and western parts of Central Anatolia. Temperatures will drop 4-6 degrees Celsius throughout the country.
Bitter cold expected in eastern province of Ardahan. The temperature will be -28.
12 MILLION PEOPLE VISITED ANITKABIR IN 2007
According to data of General Staff regarding the number of visitors to Anitkabir, the Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, a record was broken in 2007.
Number of Turkish and foreign people visiting Anitkabir in 2007 was 12,661,835.

MORTAL MIGRATION MARKET
Turkey is a transition country for the illegal migrants from poor countries willing to proceed to rich countries. Around 50,000 people are caught almost every year in Turkey. Those who have the chance, manage to reach their goals, the others are either caught or drown in the sea.
Experts said illegal migrants can go to European countries by paying 1,500-2,000 USD, and that 617,000 illegal migrants were arrested since 1995.
TURKEY'S "BORON" WAITS FOR INTEREST
Although Turkey has 72 percent of the boron reserves in the world, it can only get 400 million USD share from the 1.2 billion USD boron market in the world.
When today's consumption is taken into consideration, Turkey has reserves to meet boron need of the world for 500 years. Turkey's exports will rise to 600 million USD in case it makes necessary investments to export boron mine as refined.

Turkish inpatients and their caretakers will no longer run around trying to find medicines in pharmacies. According to a new law that went into effect on January 1st, hospitals will provide all necessary medicines and medical equipments to inpatients.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul has approved 38 laws since he came to power on August 28th. In 126 days of his presidency, Gul signed a total of 986 documents. On the average, Gul signed eight documents per day while in office.

BIG BLOW TO PKK
Turkish security forces found 550 kg of ammonium nitrate that belonged to terrorist organization PKK and were hidden in shelters in eastern provinces of Diyarbakir and Bingol on Monday. Further operations are underway in the region. Ammonium nitrate is used as an oxidizing agent in explosives.
EP: CONTINUE MAKING REFORMS
The European Parliament (EP) called on Turkey to continue making reforms in 2008. EP's Turkey Rapporteur Ria Oomen-Ruijten indicated that good relations exist between Turkey and the European Union. "In 2008, Turkey should go ahead with further reforms," Oomen-Ruijten noted.

12 Turks lose their lives per hour due to cigarette smoking, sources said. A new draft law in the Turkish Parliament will ban smoking in many closed and open facilities.

BIG ESCAPE FROM CAVE
PKK terrorists started to leave the caves in which they stored foodstuff and weapons upon the continuous operations.
Security forces found flour, sugar, cooking oil, macaroni, blankets, weapons, RPG 7 rockets and ammunition in caves during land searches in Hakkari, Van, Sirnak, Diyarbakir and Bingol.
500 kilograms of ammonium nitrate and C-4 explosives were found in Bingol and Diyarbakir. Experts said in case the ammonium nitrate was used as explosive, it would make destruction like an atom bomb.
MOBESE TO BE EVERWHERE IN 2008
Interior Minister Besir Atalay said the government started to install Mobile Electronic Systems Integration (MOBESE) system in 10 more provinces.
Atalay said 1000 cameras would be installed in Ankara, noting, "we immediately start to get results from the camera system."
