KUALA LUMPUR - 12th General Assembly of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) ended on Tuesday with a call to benefit from the informatics technology aiming to increase flow of news and information among the countries.
OANA final statement said the member agencies decided to exchange information, their experiences and specialization, and within this scope committed to exchange journalists and help each other in following cross border news reports.
Malaysian national news agency Bernama took over term presidency of OANA from Russian Itar-Tass which carried out the OANA term presidency for three years.
OANA General Assembly unanimously accepted the proposal of Thailand news agency TNA which wanted to take over the term presidency starting as of 2007.
Member agencies also discussed further improvement of OANA news service, and inclusion of photograph services.
Proposal of Itar-Tass agency, which will host World Agencies Summit in September, for formation of World Agencies Council was accepted by some member agencies. However, some agencies requested time to evaluate the issue.
