BOSNIAN REACTION TO BROADCAST IN BOSNIAN LANGUAGE
Broadcast in traditional languages and dialects, which is considered as an important step on the path to the European Union (EU), started with broadcast in Bosnian language yesterday. The broadcast of state-run TRT caused different reactions among those who know Bosnian language. Bosnia-Herzegovina Foundation Chairman Saffet Erdem reacted harshly against broadcast in Bosnian language. Noting that they were surprised with Bosnian broadcast, Erdem said that they did not demand such a thing, adding that they were a part of Turkish nation in the aspects of culture and beliefs.

550 OFFICER TO AFGHANISTAN
The Third Army Corps in Maslak, Istanbul, which Turkey assigned to NATO, will undertake command in Afghanistan in the second half of 2005. The number of soldiers, who will undertake mission in the headquarters including 550 officers from 12 different countries, will be determined in NATO Summit.

IT IS YOUR TURN NOW
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan wanted ambassadors of the European Union (EU) countries to Turkey to give a negotiation date to Turkey in December. Erdogan told ambassadors that former DEP deputy Leyla Zana was given the right of retrial and also broadcast in five different languages and dialects started yesterday. He added, ''we fulfilled our responsibilities, now it's your turn.''

ERDOGAN DUE TO U.S. FOR G-8
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will leave for the United States today. Erdogan will attend G-8 Summit Meeting as a ''democratic partner'' on June 9 in Sea Island in the United States upon the invitation of U.S. President George Bush. Participants will discuss how G-8 will support development of Middle East and northern Africa region in political, economic and social aspects and what will be the contributions of Turkey to this issue and also development of cooperation among G-8, the European Union (EU), Turkey and regional partners.

MISSILE OPERATIONS ANGER EGYPT
While investigations are under way regarding the missiles which were found in containers in Ambarli customs of Istanbul, Egypt which claimed the ownership of missiles made a shocking statement. A high-ranking Egyptian official told Sabah that they were concerned upon Turkey's describing those materials as 'weapon'. The official said that they think that Turkey, which will host NATO Summit, is reflecting the event wrongly to give a positive message to NATO in security aspect.

ERDOGAN'S GREATER MIDDLE EAST INITIATIVE BARGAINING
Turkey will participate in G-8 summit, which will be held in the United States, as ''democratic partner''. Turkey will play the role of bridge between West and Middle East during the summit in which Greater Middle East Initiative will be taken up comprehensively. Erdogan will warn about regional participation to initiative and stress Palestine issue.

ERDOGAN TRAVELS TO GREATER MIDDLE EAST INITIATIVE
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will go to the United States to attend the G-8 summit. A project in which the United States attaches great importance to Turkey will be discussed at the summit. U.S. President George Bush wants to bring the Greater Middle East Initiative, the possibility of success of which is low, to a world platform. Erdogan will take his place in this event under the title of ''the prime minister of a model country.'' Messages that prime minister of Turkey, about which Islam world has always had doubts due to its ''secular state model'', are of great importance. Erdogan thinks that it will be beneficial for Turkey to be considered as a model country. The General Staff and Foreign Ministry think of being more cautious about this initiative.

VERDICT SHOULD BE QUASHED IN DEP CASE
The Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Prosecutor's Office called for the quashing of sentences against former Democracy Party (DEP) deputies. Ankara State Security Court (DGM) sentenced former DEP deputies to 15 years of imprisonment. The Chief Prosecutor's office said that the trial should be renewed since the former trial was conducted by military judges. The office noted that the convicts should be questioned and witnesses named by the convicts should be listened.

PREPARATION TO CUSTOMS UNION WITH GREEK CYPRIOTS
Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said that Turkey will take steps soon to overcome problems stemming from exclusion of Greek Cypriots from Customs Union. Ankara is searching for ways to find solution to problems caused by exclusion of the European Union (EU) member Greek Cypriot Republic from Customs Union agreement. Gul said that they were continuing to search a solution, adding that the problem would be eliminated soon.

MUBARAK HOSTS GUL IN HIS HOUSE
Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul left for Egypt to provide gaining for Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in the 31st Meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Foreign Ministers. Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak hosted Gul in his house and Gul asked for solidarity for Cyprus issue and Turkish candidate Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu for the office of OIC Secretary General. Gul said that he received support in every issue.

CHANGES TO JURISDICTION AS A PART OF EU ADJUSTMENT
The government, which has taken into consideration warnings of the European Union (EU) that implementation of reforms is obligatory, will speed up reform packages that will be passed till the EU unveils progress report of Turkey in October. Justice Minister and government spokesman Cemil Cicek said that the Council of Ministers discussed legalization of some drafts which would contribute to the progress report and show Turkey's determination to meet political criteria. Cicek said that those drafts would firstly be discussed by the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and then by the Republican People's Party (CHP). Cicek said, ''I hope we will have the opportunity to adopt a great deal of these drafts.'' Cicek noted that reforms demanded by the EU, particularly amendments to Turkish Penal Code (TCK),would definitely be passed till December.

ANOTHER FIRST STEP ON ROAD TO EUROPE
''Broadcasting in different dialects'' which has been under discussion for years started with a program in TRT Radio-1 in Bosniac yesterday. The first radio broadcast started at 6.10 a.m. on Monday. The program named ''Our Cultural Heritage'' continued 35 minutes. Two announcers, one man and one woman, read internal and external news and sports news in the program. The program was translated into Turkish with subtitles. Radio-1 and TRT-3 will broadcast programs in Bosnian on Mondays, Arabic on Tuesdays, Kirmanji on Wednesdays, Circassian in Thursdays and Zazaish on Fridays.

FIRST BROADCAST IN BOSNIAN LANGUAGE SEPARATES BOSNIANS
Broadcast in different languages and dialects started in state-run TRT yesterday with Bosnian language. While some part of Bosnians who were living in Turkey considered positively the broadcast, some Bosnian foundations issued a joint statement and said they did not consider separate themselves from Turkey. Broadcast in traditional language and dialects is very important for Turkey's accession process to the European Union (EU).

PARLIAMENT TO SUPPORT THREE BALKAN COUNTRIES FOR NATO
Turkish Parliament launched an initiative for NATO's accepting Croatia, Macedonia and Albania to the membership before NATO Summit to be held in Istanbul between June 28 and 29. Friendship groups of three countries applied to Parliament and wanted it to release supportive declaration.
