ANKARA - Turkey summoned on Tuesday Turkish Ambassador to Israel Feridun Sinirlioglu and Turkish Consul General in Jerusalem Huseyin Avni Bicakli separately to Turkey to hold consultations.
A high-ranking official from Turkish Foreign Ministry said that Turkish Ambassador to Israel Feridun Sinirlioglu and Turkish Consul General in Jerusalem Huseyin Avni Bicakli were separately summoned to Turkey for short terms to hold consultations.
Sinirlioglu and Bicakli are expected to return to the region in a short time.
Turkey earlier reacted harshly against Israeli attacks on Rafah refugee camp.
When reporters asked Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to evaluate recent developments in Iraq and Israel in the aspect of human rights prior to his departure for Romania on May 20, Erdogan said that the developments in Iraq and Rafah refugee camp showed that the situation was tragic in the aspect of human rights. Erdogan described the events as inhumane, noting that they were unforgivable.
Erdogan also invited heads of states to hold joint solidarity and to adopt attitude against those steps which were aggravated to state terrorism. He said that the attitude should not be limited with condemnation.
Turkey had appointed former minister Vehbi Dincerler as Coordinator on Palestine Economic and Social Cooperation.
Turkish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul delivered a speech at Parliament on May 25 and said that more Palestinians were added to those who live in refugee camps due to Israel's demolition of houses. He noted that when Palestinians who held demonstration were opened fire, the events were aggravated to more tragic dimensions.
Gul said that all those developments were very dangerous and Turkey felt uneasy about them. He added that at a time when the Road Map was expected to be implemented, Israel violated every type of law and it was impossible for Turkey to welcome this attitude.
Prime Minister Erdogan had received Israeli Energy and Infrastructure Minister Yossi Paritzky the same day and told him that any government could not take assassination decision and what happened in Rafah refugee camp could not be acceptable. Erdogan said that Turkey did not want its relations with Israel to be deteriorated and it needed to warn Israel on this issue.
While responding questions of foreign editors at the 11th World Editors Forum (WEF) at the Lutfi Kirdar International Congress and Exhibition Center in Istanbul, Erdogan said that there was individual, institutional and state terrorism in the Middle East.
Israeli Foreign Ministry conveyed upon those statements of Erdogan that it considered them very unfortunate.
