Election Process Continues At Supreme Court

ANKARA - No conclusion was reached in the second round of the election process of a new chairman to the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
First and second rounds in the election were held, but none of the candidates received the required number of votes. At least 126 votes (the absolute majority of 250 members) are necessary to get elected as the new chairman.
13th Law Department Chief Ahmet Erkal Bascioglu and 21st Law Department Chief Ali Guneren withdrew their candidacy at the end of the first round while Supreme Court First Deputy Chairman Zeki Artar withdrew his candidacy at the end of the second round.
Osman Arslan, former chairman of the Supreme Court, retired on Monday.
