ANTALYA - A total of 1 million 748 thousand 526 tourists have come to southern province of Antalya by plane since the beginning of 2004, Culture and Tourism Provincial Directorate said on Monday.
A total of 32 thousand 266 tourists came to Antalya by plane on Sunday. The number of tourists who visited Antalya between January 1 and June 6 rose by 65 percent to 1 million 748 thousand 526 when compared to the same period of last year.
Antalya tourism sector aims to host 6 million tourists in the province by the end of the year. Nearly 5 million tourists visited Antalya in 2003.
Antalya is one of the most important tourism centers of Turkey hosting nearly 2 million tourists each year.
Not only is it on a beautiful crescent bay with some of the best snorkeling in Turkey, but dramatic cliffs and the Toros Mountains contribute to one of the most beautiful backdrops on the Mediterranean.
One of the biggest archaeology museums of Turkey and many ancient sites including Perge and Aspendos Theatre take place in Antalya.
