It Is Certain Detained Man Was Planning Attack, Guler

ISTANBUL - Istanbul Governor Muammer Guler said Monday it was certain that the man who was detained earlier today in Mecidiyekoy district with a back pack with explosives, was panning to carry out an attack.
Responding to the questions of reporters, Guler said the investigation was underway.
"Another person was detained after the interrogation of the detained man. Police raided an apartment believed to be used as a safe house. Some explosives and explosive mechanisms were found in the home. Interrogation of the 2 detained men continues," Guler said.
Guler said type of the explosives would be determined after the laboratory results.
Guler said the suspect may be a member of the terrorist organization, noting that the man, carrying false identity cards, earlier tried to flee abroad.
The Governor said intended target of the 25-year old man was not definitely known yet, indicating that the man did not have a criminal record.
"Capture of a terrorist before the attack is the expression of an important experience," he added.
Asked to comment on vehicles that were set on fire in Istanbul, Guler said 34 vehicles were set on fire since December 8th. "Some of the vehicles were damaged partially, and some of them totally," he added.
