Turkey Has A Right To Defend Itself But Should Do It On Its Own Territories, Talabani

AS SULAYMANIYAH - Iraqi President Jalal Talabani said Monday Turkey has the right to defend itself but it should do it on its own territories.
"We can understand that Turkey has a right to defend itself," Talabani told reporters after a meeting with Iraqi Vice President Tariq al-Hashimi and Massoud Barzani, the head of the regional administration in north of Iraq.
Talabani said villages and settlements are harmed in Turkey`s operations into north of Iraq.
"The Baghdad administration has not remained silent to these developments, given a written note and condemned them," he told.
Talabani said this is Iraq`s official reaction and Iraq wants to have good relations with Turkey.
"We want to solve our problems through these good relations. But, we do not approve operations," he told.
Talabani said they favor solution of problems through diplomatic means and they do not want to harm their relations with Turkey.
"Turkey`s friendship is important for us, and we want to launch a trilateral mechanism. We think Kurds have to take their place in this mechanism and we believe problems can be solved this way," he told.
On the other hand, Barzani said they are against Turkey`s operations. "We condemn operations and they should be ended as soon as possible."
Hashimi, in his part, said he condemns Turkey`s recent cross-border operations and claimed this is definitely not the solution.
"Because, settlements have been harmed and we can never support it," he told.
