Test Run For Turkey's First Fast Train Underway

ANKARA - Turkey's first fast train purchased from Spain will start test runs in the first week of the new year.
According to sources, 500 sand bags, weighing 70 kilos each will be used during test runs.
The test runs are expected to be made between Ankara and the Central Anatolian Province of Eskisehir. Initial test runs will be performed at lower speeds (30km/hr). Test runs will continue until a speed of 270km/hr is reached.
With the testing gear that will be installed on the train, systems' integration and functions will be adjusted to the tracks.
In February, real time test runs between Esenket and Eskisehir --that will be used as reference for passenger transportation-- will be made. By the end of April, all construction in the entire tracks will be completed.
Actual train trips are expected to begin in the second half of 2008. The construction of the line between Eskisehir and Istanbul will begin after credit contracts issue is solved.
