ANKARA - A Turkish project to develop European-Turkish business centers has received a British Expertise International Award for "sustainability."
"The development of European-Turkish business centers project has a budget worth 16.5 million Euro and is the project with the highest budget in Turkey," Levent Erkan, the DG of DeLeeuw International (DLI), told A.A correspondent.
DeLeeuw International is a subsidiary company of the WYG International Limited, a firm centered in Britain which is the consultant agency of the project.
"This is the first time the British Expertise has granted an award to a project implemented in Turkey," Erkan said.
According to Erkan, the European-Turkish business centers are established in Izmit (northwestern Turkey), Izmir (western Turkey), Gaziantep (southeastern Turkey), and give consultancy services to small and medium scale enterprises.
Erkan said the Union of Chambers & Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) and chambers of commerce in three provinces are benefitting from them.
"The project was launched in 2006 and continued till 2006," Erkan told.
Erkan said three business centers can stand on their own feet and work well with chambers of commerce.
"TOBB has applied to the EU to set up European-Turkish business centers in eight more provinces," he also said.
In order to support economic growth through improvement of small and medium scale business operations, increase employment opportunities, contribute to economic, social development and contribute to EU-Turkish business relations in the framework of the Customs Union, the TOBB prepared the Project for Development of European-Turkish Business Centres.
