ISTANBUL - International Monetary Fund (IMF) headed by Turkey Desk Chief Reza Moghadam met on Friday with officials of Independent Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (MUSIAD).
MUSIAD Chairman Omer Polat told reporters after the meeting that Moghadam said that a part of Turkey's debts to IMF could be postponed for one year and could be rearranged.
When a reporter asked whether the proposal for extending Turkey's debt to IMF worth of 20 billion U.S. dollars to 4-5 years was discussed during the meeting, Polat said that Moghadam told him that a part of the debts could be postponed for one year.
Polat added that Moghadam told him that one billion dollar of eight billion dollars of debt, which would be paid in 2005, could be postponed to 2006 and four billion dollars of 12 billion dollars, which would be paid in 2006, could be postponed to 2007. Polat said that Moghadam told him that IMF regulations envision this, but it was not possible to make a longer postponement.
