LEFKOSA - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas said on Friday that UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's Cyprus report considered Turkish Cypriots as ''community'', adding, ''the Security Council insists on not diagnosing the Cyprus issue.''
Denktas said that it would be revealed that the Cyprus issue was the consequence of Greek Cypriots' game to seize whole Cyprus and it would be proven that Turkish Cypriots were right if the UN Security Council diagnosed the Cyprus issue.
Replying to questions of reporters during a meeting, Denktas assessed Annan's report on Cyprus.
Stressing that Turkish Cypriots were one of the two politically equal and sovereign sides in Cyprus, Denktas said Turkish Cypriot people would never accept to be a ''community'' but they would have their state existed eternally by preserving their sovereignty and any concession from it was out of question.
''We continue walking on our path. It is the path of preserving our state and defending our post and not making self-sacrifices from our sovereignty rights. There is no other alternative. Leading nations are obliged to make a true diagnosis of the Cyprus issue. Otherwise, mistakes that have been made so far would continue. We foresee it and we regret,'' he said.
Stressing that Turkish Cypriots continued to be called ''community'' in Annan's report, Denktas said, ''it is a report which proves insincerity of Greek Cypriots. However, all the former Greek Cypriot leaders have played the same trick. Why they call us intransigent because we have not made concession from our state and sovereignty.''
''They should consider that Greek Cypriots follow hostile national policy towards Turkish Cypriots. So we have to powerfully defend our post. If there would be an equal and lasting agreement that does not create any return to 1963, then Greek Cypriots should know that this agreement cannot be destroyed. And it can only be an agreement on basis of the principle of two states,'' he said.
