IRBIL - Jabbar Yawar, the spokesman of the regional administration in north of Iraq, claimed Tuesday a group of Turkish troops entered Galirash region, situated at the intersection of Iran-Iraq border.
"Gunshots were heard in the region where Turkish troops entered," he told.
Yawar said they have learned that Turkish troops entered Galirash region to stage an operation against the terrorist organization PKK.
"This area is mountainous and there are not any peshmergas there," he told.
According to border guards, gunshots were heard, he also said.
Yawar said, "we interpret it as Turkish troops have been in a clash with the PKK members. We have not received any detailed information yet."
Turkish General Staff said Sunday Turkish Air Forces' hit targets of terrorist organization PKK/KONGRA-GEL in Avashin and Hakurk regions and Mount Kandil in the north of Iraq as of 1 a.m. on December 16th, 2007.
