RESCUE MY HUSBAND
Sureyya Yanik, wife of Bulent Yanik, who was kidnapped together with an Egyptian driver, said, ''I am concerned about life of my husband. I want Turkey to intervene and rescue my husband soon. He had gone to Kuwait eight months ago to make a living for our family.''
Militants who kidnapped Yanik and an Egyptian driver, who were carrying supplies to Iraq, wanted Turkey and Egypt to condemn the United States. Armed militants showed the hostages from Al Arabia television. The militants said, ''if there is not any condemnation, we will judge those who carried supplies to foreign armies according to sharia.''

PUTIN NOT TO JOIN NATO SUMMIT
It has become definite that Russian Head of State Vladimir Putin would not join NATO summit. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said they have not stated that Putin would join the meeting, noting that, ''thus, any cancellation is not in question now.''
Opposing to the statements that Putin did not attribute importance to the summit, Lavrov said, ''the President would have the opportunity to meet with the world leaders at another time. He would meet with U.S. President Bush in G-8 summit in the United States.''

THERE CAN NOT BE ABSOLUTE EQUALITY
In Constitutional Court decision, which stated that graduates of several vocational high schools would not be accepted to police academies, pointed out that, ''implementing different principles in different situations would not disrupt principle of equality.''
Constitutional Court adopted a decision which could be a message to Justice and Development Party (AK Party) which announced that it had suspended the law about the Higher Education Board (YOK) till the new legislation year.
Constitutional Court, with the decision it has adopted, closed the ways for Imam-Hatip students' being police.
The court rejected the proposal requesting cancellation of arrangement about admission of students of several vocational high schools to police academy.
Closed Virtue Party (FP), when it was in the ruling, had opened a file to annul the arrangement of Police High Education Law about admission of students to Police Academies from high schools, technical education schools and trade and tourism high schools.

ERDOGAN TO GIVE LESSON IN G-8
U.S. President George W. Bush's national security adviser Condoleezza Rice said the leaders will listen from Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan the success of a country, having overwhelmingly Moslem population, in improving a secular democracy.
Rice said G-8 Summit that would take place between June 8 and 10 would constitute an opportunity for G-8 to discuss how political, economic and social progress could be supported in the Middle East, and to listen to the success of Turkey in improving a secular democracy.
Turkey was invited to the summit as ''democratic partner''. G-8 group is comprised of seven industrialized countries U.S., Germany, France, Britain, Italy, Japan, Canada and Russia.

OPERATION IN THE SEA
Customs security teams and gendarme launched an operation against a ship that was going from Ukraine to Egypt. The ship anchored in Ambarli for fuel supply. The teams confiscated weapons in two containers. It was claimed that there was a missile launcher in the ship.
State Minister Kursad Tuzmen who arrived in Istanbul to investigate the issue, stated that the investigation would be deepened. It was stated that destination of the containers were Egypt.

FOREIGN MINISTRY: REPORT MEETS EXPECTATIONS
Cyprus report of the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan satisfied Ankara. Ankara wanted the UN to take a ''binding'' decision after Cyprus Report of UN Secretary General Annan.
Following the UN decision, the United States and European Union (EU), which earlier said ''firstly the UN decision'' are expected to launch initiatives to lift the isolation of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) people.
It was reported that European Commission would issue a comprehensive package.

REASON OF MASSACRE IS AK PARTY POLICIES
Sarioglu, the lawyer of spouses of Habib Akdas and Gurcan Bas in the al-Qaeda case in Turkey said that the suspects staged the bomb attacks in Istanbul not to change the constitutional order. Sarioglu claimed that the suspects staged the attacks to react to the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government due to the U.S. occupation of Iraq, support to the Jews, and decision to send soldiers to Iraq. The court decided to release one of the suspects.

YILMAZ SENT TO HIGH TRIBUNAL
Turkish Parliamentary Investigation Commission decided to send former prime minister Mesut Yilmaz and former state minister Gunes Taner to the High Tribunal on charges of cheating in Turkbank tender. The parliament will make the final decision.

MUNICIPALITY HOLE IN FINANCIAL DISCIPLINE
The government will violate laws limiting public borrowing with the local administrations bill defined as a ''reform.'' Under the bill, municipalities which take Treasury-guaranteed loans and don't repay them will be provided with unlimited borrowing opportunity. The Parliamentary Planning and Budget Commission added new arrangements to the bill which will enable the local administrations to get unlimited loans for transportation, potable and waste water projects. Total debt of the local administrations to the state is currently about 12 quadrillion Turkish liras (TL).

ANNAN CALLS FOR END OF ISOLATION
United Nations (UN) Secretary General Kofi Annan called on countries to end unnecessary isolation and lift embargoes on Turkish Cypriot side which had showed its will to reunify with the Greek Cypriot side. Cyprus report Annan will present to the UN Security Council has been leaked out. The report calls for end of isolation and embargoes on Turkish Cypriot side and said that such a move would contribute to reunification of the island, not division or recognition of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The report said that Turks gave up their target for recognition of TRNC by saying ''yes'' to Annan plan and praised Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and TRNC leader Mehmet Ali Talat. The report criticized Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos. Ankara found the report positive.

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, who criticized Greek Cypriot side in Cyprus report, thanked to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and TRNC Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat.
Annan called on the other countries to lift the embargoes and isolation on TRNC.
Annan said members of UN Security Council should guide other countries to make cooperation to lift the unnecessary limitations causing isolation of Turkish Cypriots.

IMF DELEGATION IN ISTANBUL
International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation headed by Turkey Desk Chief Reza Moghadam arrived in Turkey on Wednesday for discussions on the eighth review of the stand-by deal.
IMF delegation will meet with business and finance circles and representatives of several civil organizations in Istanbul on Thursday.
Following those meetings, IMF delegation will proceed to Ankara on June 8 to hold formal meetings at the Treasury Undersecretary's Office, Finance Ministry, Banking Regulatory and Supervisory Agency (BRSA), Central Bank and State Planning Organization (DPT) and relevant ministers.
Meanwhile, IMF European One Director and IMF Executive Director Michael Deppler and Willy Kiekens will also come to Turkey.
Deppler and Kiekens are expected to join discussions of Turkish economy officials and IMF delegation between June 7-10.
During these meetings, the sides will also discuss format of new agreement that will be replaced with existing stand-by deal that will end in February 2004. Also maturity of new agreement is expected to be discussed during these meetings.

FIRST TURK TO PLAY IN NBA FINAL: MEHMET OKUR
Mehmet Okur, first Turkish basketball player who is successfully representing Turkey in the NBA, will play in the NBA final wearing Detroit uniform. Okur will be the first Turk to play in the NBA final. Detroit, which defeated Indiana 4-2, will take on Lakers in the final. Okur has significant contributions to Detroit's success as he has played very successfully since the beginning of the season.

TURKEY TO SEND DELEGATION TO BARGUTI CASE
Turkish parliament will send a delegation to attend the case of Marwan al-Barguti, Palestinian parliamentarian who is imprisoned in Israel. The delegation headed by Parliamentary Human Rights Commission Chairman Mehmet Elkatmis will go to Tel Aviv to support al-Barguti in the court session to take place on June 6. The court is expected to take its final decision in its June 6th session. Turkish delegation will monitor whether or not the trial was fair. The delegation is planning to visit the Palestinian parliamentarian in the prison if the Israeli authorities permit.
