ISTANBUL - Turkey Newspaper Owners' Association President and Dogan Holding Executive Board Chairman Aydin Dogan was re-elected on Wednesday member of Executive Board of the World Association of Newspapers (WAN).
WAN general assembly meeting was held in closure session of the 11th World Editors Forum (WEF) and 57th Congress of WAN held in Istanbul. Election on executive board members of WAN was held in the general assembly meeting.
South Korean Dr. Seok Hyun Hong, was re-elected the chairman of WAN for the period between 2004 and 2006.
Seok Hyun Hong said that they prepared an action plan for 2004-2006 and stated that their mission was to protect and develop press freedom and also provide economic independence of newspapers.
WAN Director General Timothy Balding noted that next meeting of WAN would be held in Seoul, South Korea between May 29 and June 1, 2005.
Annual meetings of world press are held by WAN which is the global organization of press sector and representing 18 thousand newspapers in the world.
A total of 72 national newspapers union, individual newspaper directors from 102 countries, 13 news agencies and ten regional or worldwide press groups are members of WAN.
