Turkish Fm Visits Komotini

KOMOTINI - Turkish FM Ali Babacan visited Komotini city of Greece and met Turkish community living in Western Thrace on Wednesday.
"You are a bridge of friendship between Turkey and Greece who are bringing us closer to each other," Babacan told the Turkish community in Western Thrace during a meeting at the Celal Bayar High School.
Babacan said Turkey is exerting efforts to solve problems of Turks in this region.
"One of main principles of the EU is to preserve fundamental rights and freedoms and perceive differences as a richness," he told Turks.
Babacan also said, "we expect Greece, like all other EU member states, to behave in line with this main principle."
FM Babacan later visited Turkey's Consulate General in Komotini and met elected muftis of Xanthi and Komotini.
Babacan was the first foreign minister of Turkey who visited Western Thrace in 47 years.
