SANLIURFA - Syria's Rakka provincial Governor Ahmet Shahade Khalil visited the Akcakale Border Pass scheduled to be opened soon to boost trade between Turkey and Syria, it was reported.
Khalil and a 19-member delegation arrived in south-eastern province of Sanliurfa's Akcakale town on Wednesday.
Khalil and his delegation were welcomed at the Border Pass by Sanliurfa Governor Yusuf Yavascan and Akcakale Sub- governor Muhammet Aktas.
The Syrian delegation observed the region that was once full of land mines.
Speaking to journalists, Khalil indicated that "Turkey and Syria are two brotherly countries."
"With the inauguration of the new border pass, commercial relations between Turkey and Syria would boom," he said.
Meanwhile, Sanliurfa Governor Yavascan remarked that the Akcakale Border Pass may be used as of today. "A formal ceremony will take place later," Yavascan stressed.
Khalil and his delegation also paid a visit to Harran town on Wednesday.
