Turkey's Negotiation Target Still On Table, Babacan

ANKARA - Turkish FM Ali Babacan said Wednesday Turkey's negotiation target is still on the table.
"The (External Relations) Council (of the EU) has made a decision," Babacan told reporters after participating in a reception the Turkish Industrialists' & Businessmen's Association (TUSIAD) hosted at the Hilton Ankara.
Babacan said the European Council has to approve this decision in its Friday's summit.
"Therefore, we will make our official statement after we see Friday's presidency conclusions," he told.
Babacan said Turkey's path to the EU will be a long one in which there will be ups and downs and challenges.
"But we will continue our path and I do not think we can get any results by impulsive reactions and heroism," he told.
Babacan said they will try to solve problems with cooperation.
"We will not be daunter or demoralized and achieve our target," he told.
Babacan said Turkey's EU process is on the right track. "The recently-announced decision is not one that derails our negotiation process. Our membership target is still on the table."
FM Babacan said the more self-confident Europe is and the more positive the general political climate in Europe is, the quicker Turkey will get closer to the EU.
"The less self-confident Europe is, the bigger problems it has with Turkey," Babacan told.
Babacan said Turkey's EU membership bid is a long-term process but everything can be solved in that process.
