LEFKOSA - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Denktas who is currently paying an official visit to Bangladesh met with Bangladeshi Foreign Minister M. Morshed Khan late on Sunday.
Khan stated that Turkish Cypriot people had displayed a powerful will for a fair and lasting peace in Cyprus in the referendum on April 24, stressing that the time had come to lift isolation of Turkish Cypriots who should take the place they deserved in the international community.
Stressing that Turkish Cypriots should have equal status as Greek Cypriots in international community, Khan said Bangladesh was ready to extend every kind of support to the TRNC in this regard.
Stating that biggest support to the TRNC had been given by Turkey for years, Khan said relations between the TRNC and Bangladesh should enhance in many fields like economy and sports.
Meanwhile, Denktas said that an official visit from Bangladesh to the TRNC for enhancing bilateral relations could be a ''good message to international community''.
Denktas said such a visit would be a good example of steps to lift embargoes on the TRNC and end isolation.
Serdar Denktas said that Bangladesh could play an important role in development of relations of other Islamic countries with the TRNC.
During the meeting, Denktas conveyed a lettef from TRNC President Rauf Denktas to Bangladeshi President Iajuddin Ahmed.
