NEW YORK - Turkish Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan said on Saturday that Turkey, for the first time, completed a stand-by agreement with International Monetary Fund (IMF) during the period of their government.
Unakitan, who held meetings with investor and finance circles in New York on Thursday and Friday, replied questions of Turkish reporters.
Noting that Turkey, for the first time completed a stand-by agreement with IMF during Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government, Unakitan said, ''this shows our government's seriousness and determination in economic management. If we did not fulfill these, dropping the interest rates would not be possible. We will continue with the same seriousness. Relations with IMF will be discussed and the situation will be cleared within few months.''
Unakitan is expected to return to Turkey today.
