Turkey Will Gain More Importance In Upcoming Years, EP Deputy Ozdemir

BERLIN - A member of the European Parliament Cem Ozdemir said Tuesday that Turkey will gain more importance in the upcoming years.
In a press briefing held in German capital of Berlin on Tuesday, Ozdemir noted that Turkey will be more positively evaluated as an Islamic country that transfers energy and fights against terrorists in the near future.
"The European Union (EU) must send Turkey positive signals. Turkey has been left alone in making reforms. The EU must inform Turkey that the EU is a reliable friend of the Turks," Ozdemir indicated.
Ozdemir criticized the decision of the Christian Democrat Union Party (CDU) to give Turkey a "privileged partnership".
Ozdemir warned that remarks made by CDU to close EU doors to countries such as Turkey will not merely have a negative impact on Turkish-EU relations. It will have a greater impact, added Ozdemir.
