ZONGULDAK - Nearly 1.5 million tons of coal was extracted in various mines of the Turkish Coal Authority (TTK) during the first 11 months of 2007.
A total of 1,551,995 tons of coal was extracted at TTK`s mines located in Kozlu, Amasra, Armutcuk, Karadon and Uzulmez regions within this period, TTK officials told AA.
Officials said Turkey`s annual coal demand reached 15 million tons and a considerable amount of such figure could be supplied from this basin.
According to officials, the estimated capacity of the coal reserves in the basin was 1.35 billion tons.
