ATHENS - Turkish FM Ali Babacan said Tuesday this is the first time since 1980s that Turkey`s rightful stance on terrorism is confirmed by a large majority.
"Turkey has entered a new era in its fight against terrorism," Babacan told reporters en route to Athens.
Babacan is actually paying a two-day formal visit to Greece upon an invitation of his Greek counterpart Dora Bakoyianni. The Turkish foreign minister is scheduled to meet his Greek counterpart and will be received by Greek President Karolos Papoulias, Greek PM Costas Caramanlis and Parliament Speaker Dimitris Sioufas.
On his flight to Athens, Babacan told reporters that Turkey has made great progress in isolating the terrorist organization PKK in the international arena and Turkish executives visited many countries and had phone talks with foreign officials to achieve this goal.
"World public opinion should acknowledge that we are acting on a legitimate ground," he said.
Babacan also said Turkey`s fight against terrorism will be long. "There are many instruments in this fight and we are trying to use all of them. We believe we`ll be successful."
