Democratization Process To Contribute To Pakistan's Development, Musharraf

ISLAMABAD - Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said Monday the democratization process Pakistan is undergoing will contribute to its future development.
"Everybody should leave aside their personal and political ambitions and serve Pakistan`s and Pakistani nation`s interests," Musharraf told a joint press conference with Turkish President Abdullah Gul, in Islamabad.
Musharraf said he hopes President Gul`s meetings with Pakistani opposition leaders --to take place later on Monday-- will yield positive results.
On the other hand, Musharraf said Gul and himself discussed fight against terrorism and he mentioned his country`s efforts to end Iranian-U.S. tension and endeavors to ensure regional harmony.
Musharraf also said Turkey and Pakistan should boost their economic and commercial relations.
Commenting on the recent political situation in Pakistan, Gul said what is important is to maintain the unity of a country.
Gul said, "we have to focus on Pakistan`s future. If a country has a strong army and democracy, economic development will follow them. Therefore, decision-makers should focus on Pakistan`s future in such critical processes."
"I do not want to be involved in internal affairs of Pakistan, but as a friend we are focusing on this big picture," Gul also said.
Gul later participated in a luncheon Pakistani PM Mohammedmian Soomro hosted in his honor.
